System of start of the engine - the general information and precautionary measures

General information

The only problem of system of start of the engine is ensuring rotation of the engine with a speed sufficient for its start.

The system of start consists of a starter, the rechargeable battery, the switch of ignition, the traction relay and a connecting electrical wiring.

The starter represents the electric motor of a direct current with the mixed excitement and the electromagnetic traction relay installed outside. The starter consists of the case or the stator with windings of excitement, an anchor with the obgonny coupling, covers with brush holders and the traction relay.

At inclusion of a starter through a winding of the traction relay of a starter current from the rechargeable battery begins to proceed. The anchor of the relay is involved and contacts become isolated. At the same time the relay anchor via the driving lever provides promotion of a gear wheel with the obgonny coupling, at the same time the nave of the coupling turns on screw vents of a shaft of an anchor of a starter and turns as well a gear wheel that facilitates input of the last in gearing with a gear wreath of a flywheel. Through the closed contacts of the traction relay there pass the current feeding windings of the stator and anchors and the anchor of a starter begins to rotate together with a nave and the obgonny coupling.

After start of the engine the frequency of rotation of a gear wheel exceeds the frequency of rotation of an anchor of a starter. In this case the obgonny coupling is freely turned, and the torque is not transferred from an engine flywheel to a starter anchor shaft. After an ignition key otpuskaniye the power-supply circuit of windings of the traction relay via the switch of ignition is disconnected, the anchor of the traction relay is wrung out by a spring in a starting position, contacts of the relay are disconnected and the gear wheel of the drive leaves gearing with a gear wreath of a flywheel.

The starter with the involving relay is located parallel to a bent shaft of the engine and fixed on a transmission case.

Activation of a starter happens only at the squeezed-out coupling pedal (model to RKPP) / the AT selector lever transferred to situation "N" or "P".

Precautionary measures

When carrying out any works with system of start of the engine observe the following requirements:

  • In order to avoid an electric motor exit out of operation as a result of an overheat do not activate a starter continuously for the period of more than 15 seconds, - before repeated inclusion wait not less than 1 minute. The long provorachivaniye of not started engine of a starter leads to a congestion of not burned down fuel in the catalytic converter that is fraught with an exit of the last out of operation as a result of ignition at start implementation;
  • The starter is connected directly to the rechargeable battery and the negligent treatment of him can be the reason of ignition as a result of short circuit;
  • Before works on service of a starter always disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
