Replacement of motive oil and oil filter

General information

The long contact of skin with the fulfilled motive oil is quite dangerous. Use protective cream and put on gloves during this procedure. Replace the clothes which became impregnated with oil immediately.

Regular and frequent replacement of motive oil is the main preventive procedure of service, to the available amateur mechanic. Eventually oil is subject to fluidifying and pollution that leads to premature wear of the engine.


  1. Motive oil can be in case of need extorted by means of the special probe (it is usually possible to take in temporary use at gas stations) through the directing tube of the measuring probe.

Do not merge the fulfilled oil in the sewerage at all!

  1. Expediently after performance of replacement of oil to fix on the engine a label with the indication of brand of the filled-in oil and date of implementation of the procedure.
  2. Use of oils of various types adversely affects operation of the engine. At all also mixing of oils of various brands is not allowed. In some situations (in particular, in off-season) mixing of motive oils of various viscosity, on condition of their coincidence on type and brand is allowed.

Necessary tool

  • Viewing hole / platform / hydroelevator (if oil is not pumped out at the top);
  • Head for an otvorachivaniye of a drain stopper;
  • The special tool for a filter otvorachivaniye (a key for the filter, a tape key or the HAZET 2172 tool);
  • Capacity for collecting oil (if oil is not sucked away) not less than 6 l.

Necessary spare parts and expendables

  • Aluminum or copper sealing washer for a drain stopper, - are sometimes delivered together with an oil filter (if oil is not pumped out at the top);
  • Replaceable oil filter;
  • Necessary amount of the motive oil which got approval of the Mercedes-Benz company.

Discharge of motive oil


Motive oil can be also removed with an exhaustion method, by means of the probe, through a probe opening.

  1. Warm up the engine up to the working temperature (temperature of oil of +60 °C).
  2. The car also establish to Poddomkratta it horizontally on props.
  3. Get under the case pallet capacity for collecting the fulfilled oil.
  4. Turn out a drain stopper (1) from the case pallet and completely merge oil, - if the drain stopper is located not in lower engine case pallet points, it is necessary to use the special device for oil pumping out.

If in the fulfilled oil there are at a large number a metal shaving and products of wear, it indicates existence of zadir, for example, in bearings of a bent shaft and conrod bearings. For an exception of damages after the made repairs it is necessary to clear oil channels and hoses carefully. It is in addition necessary if is available, to replace the oil heater.

  1. Then it is necessary to screw a drain stopper with a new sealing ring. It is not necessary to exceed the inhaling moments specified in Specifications, otherwise it can lead to violation of tightness and damages.
  2. Lower the car on wheels.

Replacement of an oil filter

  1. For a reversing of oil located from above on the engine filtrasledut to use a special face key.
  2. Wipe a landing flange on the block of the engine with the rags moistened in fuel, then remove all traces of material of old laying from its surface.
  3. Grease laying of a replaceable oil filter before installation with a thin layer of motive oil.
  4. The replaceable filter at installation drags on manually before pulling of laying to a landing flange, then for a half-turn, - study also information given directly on the filter case.
  5. Track that the drain stopper was tightened with the required effort, - do not forget to replace a sealing washer.

Gas station of fresh motive oil


At the first start of a turbodiesel after replacement of oil it is necessary to watch that the engine at first worked on single turns, the control lamp of pressure of oil will not go out yet. Only after achievement of necessary pressure of oil it is possible to increase gas. If gas is given at the burning control lamp, owing to insufficient amount of oil the turbocompressor can be damaged.

  1. Gas station of oil is made through the special, equipped with a cover jellied mouth in a cover of a head of cylinders.
  2. When replacing oil apply new oil of the same type and, whenever possible, the same brand, as merged from the engine. For the purpose of minimization of spraying use a funnel. At each replacement of oil attach to the engine the plate with the indication of type and brand of the filled-in oil, and also date of performance of replacement.
  3. At the first stage fill in 0.5 l less oil, than it is specified in Specifications, then warm up the engine and, several minutes later, check level and, in case of need, make the corresponding adjustment, having brought level to mark MOVE in an edge of the measuring probe.

Surplus of oil should be pumped out from the engine in order to avoid risk of damage of sealing elements of the engine and failure of the catalytic converter.

  1. After a trial trip check tightness of landing of a drain stopper and an oil filter,
  2. 3 minutes later after an engine stop once again measure an urovenmasl, in case of need make the corresponding adjustment.
